Impact of ambient temperature variation on geometrical accuracy of basic parts in precision horizontal processing center

Abstract: Precision horizontal processing center is a kind of machine tool which can not only process parts with complex structures but also guarantee high machining precision. However,the temperature variation would bring about the thermal deformation of the machine tool parts. The bed and the column and other large parts would be influenced easily. Therefore,the accuracy of the machine tool would be decreased. Aiming at above proldems, with finite element method,the temperature fields and thermal deformations of the bed and the column were analyzed. It was found that the amplitude and the cycle of the varying ambient temperature have large effects on the geometrical accuracy of basic parts,and the laws of them were concluded. The results of research provides basis for the temperature control in the constant temperature workshop and the thermal error compensation for the machine tool.
