Abstract: In order to repair the spoiled teeth surfaces of gear shaft by laser cladding, radial distortion of gear shaft was analyzed. Numerical calculation model of stress field in the process of laser cladding on tooth surface of gear shaft was established. Radial displacement of shaft was calculated. The results show that radial distortion could not be avoided when the teeth be sequential clad. And the radial distortion of shaft would be compensated at a certain extent when symmetrical cladding craft is applied. Radial distortion values of gear shaft were measured after two kinds of cladding crafts in experiment. Experiment results show that the radial displacement value of shaft in process of symmetrical cladding is less than one-third of radial distortion value in process of sequential cladding. It is shown that symmetrical cladding craft is effective for controlling distortion of gear shaft in process of laser cladding on teeth surfaces, and this craft could be applied to actual repairing of gear shaft.
