Abstract: In order to eliminate the problems of cost and reliability that caused by the mechanical sensor of the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drives, a novel nonlinear control strategy based on sliding mode observer was investigated The sliding surface was defined on the errors between the actual and estimated currents The estimated backEMF was observed to calculate the angle and speed of the rotor by using a sufficient sliding gainThe stypticity of sliding observer based on Lyapunov was analyzed. The hardware and software of the proposed sensorless vector control based on sliding mode observer was implemented The steady state of 1 500 r/min and the transient response of positive to negative speed tests were evaluated The experimental results show that proposed sliding mode observer algorithm is effective to estimate the rotor position of the PMSM and has good steady and transient response
