Improved intra prediction of H.264/AVC based on block matching algorithm

Abstract: The intra prediction algorithm based on H.264/AVC standard is a method of reducing spatial redundancy between macroblocks. Aiming at the performance of intra prediction,a block-matching based intra frame prediction algorithm was proposed. The mode 2 of H.264's standard prediction methods was replaced by a block-matching algorithm (BM)-DC novel mode. And the reference software JM18.2 was applied to do the test. The results indicate that this method could improve the PSNR by 0.1 dB~0.4 dB. Significant improvement of coding performance can be gained compared to the H.264 algorithm.
