Model and characteristics of magnetic bearing with colocated damper

Abstract: Aiming at the lack of capacity of vibration suppression in conventional magnetic bearing rotor system, a new same position electromagnetic damping was applied to the magnetic bearing rotor system model. The new electromagnetic damping model was analyzed. The model is more accurate because of taking the effect of current changes in coils into account and the use of magnetic potential. The characteristics of new damping force were established. The impacts on the vibrational state of single degree of freedom magnetic bearing model were evaluated on the new magnetic bearing rotor system. The results indicate that the new colocated damping force can decrease the displacement from 1.65×10-5 m to 2×10-6 m, enhances the vibration suppression capacity of magnetic bearing system.
