Abstract: Aiming at the current research progress and existing problems of air compressor for fuel cell, based on the analysis of the basic composition, working principle and performance characteristics of fuel cell, it was pointed out that the air compressor in the gas supply subsystem played an important role in the performance of fuel cell, and the voltage, power and manufacturing cost of fuel cell was affected by different types of air compressors. The working principles of air compressors commonly used in fuel cell systems, namelyscrew compressors, centrifugal compressors, vane compressors and scroll compressor were introduced. The concrete application of development about aviation, aerospace and electric vehicles in recent years were analyzed. The performance of volume, pressure rise, vibration, power and noise were compared and analyzed. The results indicate that, with the increase of air pressure, the voltage and power density of fuel cell increase, and the manufacturing cost decreases. Comparing with other types of compressors, centrifugal compressors have better comprehensive performance and higher adaptability to fuel cell systems. At present, there are still some technical difficulties in the optimization design of centrifugal compressor, and it is necessary to conduct more in-depth research in the future in order to further enhance its comprehensive application effect.
