Abstract:  In order to study the key factors affecting the maintenance cycle and operation reliability of mechanical seals of single-stage centrifugal pumps, according to the statistics of failure data, the distribution type and parameters were analyzed using Weibull distribution function, and the reliability law and maintenance cycle of mechanical seals were studied. Firstly, through the probability statistics of the failure components and failure modes of single-stage centrifugal pumps in a domestic refining and chemical enterprise, it was concluded that the component with the highest failure probability of single-stage centrifugal pump was the mechanical seal, and the failure mode with the highest failure efficiency was external leakage (process). Then, the data of the trouble-free operation time of the mechanical seal of single-stage centrifugal pump in the atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit were collected to determine its distribution type, and then the maintenance cycle and reliability rule of the mechanical seal under a certain reliability were determined. Finally, the common failure mechanisms of mechanical seals were analyzed, and the failure probability data of each failure mechanism were given. The research results show that the fault free operation time of the mechanical seal of the single-stage centrifugal pump obeys the three parameter Weibull distribution, and the fitting effect is better than exponential distribution and normal distribution. The mean time between failures (MTBF), mean maintenance time, and the availability of mechanical seals of the unit are respectively 12 745 h, 55 h and 99.6%.

Key words:  single-stage centrifugal pump; mean time between failures(MTBF); mean time to repair(MTTR); Weibull distribution function; failure mode effects and criticality analysis(FMECA); failure mechanisms; failure probability
